What happens at Initial Assessment Session
I want to emphasize that by attending an initial assessment session there is no obligation or pressure to make any future appointments.
The initial assessment is essential and will last one hour to:
- Give you the opportunity to experience counselling with me and to ask questions or raise any concerns before making any commitment.
- Provide time for us to discuss administrative issues such as cancelling / re scheduling appointments, discuss times and dates, talk about confidentiality, payment etc.
- Allows us time to consider what you are expecting to gain from your sessions and what is bringing you to counselling at this time and why.
- It allows me to decide if what I can offer is suitable to your needs and whether we might need long or short term counselling. If I feel I am not the right person or unable to help you I will be refer you to someone who I feel might be more suitable.
- Crucially though, this session is about YOU. It is a chance for you to see how you feel talking with me and whether you feel comfortable.
At the end of this session you are free to either make another appointment with me, go away and think about it or to decide that you do not want to continue.
